Wheel of Time Thursday, Sep 28 2006

I am almost done with the first book in the series Wheel of Time-it’s called “Eye of the World” and I totally love it.  I admit, sometimes fantasy is pretty great.  The author just keeps writing them and writing them and he will never end it, and he will die with no end.  It kind of makes me not really want to get into it, but I guess it’s too late…I’m sucked in now!

I still haven’t finished “Crunchy Cons”….I need more free time!  I need more time to relax and chill out with my books and tea!

High Fidelity Tuesday, Sep 26 2006

My roommate is reading the book High Fidelity right now, which I didn’t even know was a book before it was a movie (I’m slow to pick up on some things I guess!)  She says it makes her feel so bad for the main character, and she feels like it’s a pretty realistic character.  She hates seeing him put all this energy into a person when she isn’t what he wants anyways.  Have any of you read the book?  I liked the movie, maybe I should read it…

Books and community Saturday, Sep 23 2006

The area that my parents live in are building these huge condominiums that will be connected with a huge 14 screen movie theater and shopping area.  But, what they are missing in the plans is a good book shop and coffee shop!  I think every community will fail if they don’t have a place where community can meet and come together.  In the 1950’s this may have been a hair dresser’s shop, or the barber shop for men, or church, but now where can people meet outside of a bar?  Coffee shops, music venues and book stores are so vital in my opinion.  Anyways, I just started thinking about this as I discovered that there are going to be a bunch of new condos for sale in Cincinnati, and I am curious what it would be like to live so close to so many people that you don’t know!  It could be a really neat community in there!

Reading date Sunday, Sep 17 2006

Tonight I have a “reading aloud date” with two dear friends. We are going to head to the park, bring some drinks, a blanket to sit on, our favorite childhood book, and we are going to take turns reading them aloud. I can’t wait! There is this great park downtown with a fountain, and a view of the city skyline over the river. I love finding friends and excuses to lounge at parks. 🙂

Unfortunate Events Tuesday, Sep 12 2006

I am in the middle of the books by Limony Snicket “A Series of Unfortunate Events” like I may have mentioned before, and I freaking love them!  They make me laugh out loud sometimes!  But, I will say that I am getting frustrated.  I think honestly, I just want it to end in a fairy tale ending!  I know it warns me the entire series that if you want a happy ending you shouldn’t keep reading, but for some reason, that makes me want to read it and find a happy ending even more!

New Friday, Sep 8 2006

You know how I was mentioning that Korean Tea stuff?  Well, check out what I found out that they have NOW.  I personally think it sounds a little gross, but I guess I’ll give anything a try once right?

Anyways, I found the COOLEST book yesterday evening!  It’s called “Everything’s a Puzzle” and it’s probably from the 1960’s or so.  It is all word puzzles, like with a picture drawn, and then you subtract and add letters…and then in the end it makes a great word pun.  I have made one before, and it made me decide that I want to do it again.  Only this time I want to make really detailed drawings, paint over an old book, and make the word puzzles really hard.  I need some free time to work on it!

Comfy books Monday, Sep 4 2006

For me, books and tea go together like cinnamon and spice.  There is NOTHING better than iced tea and a book on a hammock in the summer, or hot tea and a book in front of the fireplace in the winter.  Who will give me an amen on that one?  Leave me a comment with your favorite hot/cold drink and favorite reading spot.

comic books Friday, Sep 1 2006

So, do you think comic books count as reading??  I mean like..if I sit down to “read” a comic book, can that count as an intellectual activity?  I have to admit I have a secret love of super heroes.  The whole concept of a secret identity, an alternate life, or of having a secret power to use against your enemies is just a really attractive one!  I have my whole room done with this kind of theme, and I know it may make me just a big kid, or even a big dork, but I just can’t help it!
